KUALA LUMPUR – United Sabah Party (PBS) president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili is now off the market after tying the knot again at the end of last year.

Ongkili, 70, married Datin Chhunlin Roeung on December 30, at Dewan Johnity in Tambunan.

He was previously married to Datin Seri Joan Maluda, and was widowed with her death in September 2018, due to long-term illnesses.

News of Ongkili’s marriage to Chhunlin was shared on Facebook by the office of Tambunan assemblyman and Sabah Star president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan, who is also Ongkili’s uncle.

Also in attendance were PBS deputy presidents Datuk Seri Joachim Gunsalam and Datuk Jahid Jahim, as well as vice president Datuk Hendrus Anding and deputy secretary-general Jonnybone Kurum.

The couple had another wedding ceremony on January 2 at Walai Bundasan, Kota Marudu.

In September last year, Gunsalam announced that Ongkili was still PBS president amid rumours of his ill health.

The former Kota Marudu MP is currently Sabah Energy Commission’s chairman since February 2023.

He has also served as the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Sabah and Sawarak affairs, under the administration of former prime ministers Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to August 2021, and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob until November 2022.

Ongkili was previously the energy, green technology, and water minister from May 2013 to May 2018 when Datuk Seri Najib Razak was prime minister. – January 12, 2024
