KUALA LUMPUR – A viral video showing an individual berating, slapping, and pulling a man’s hair at a premises in Johor has been confirmed to feature the head of a local police station, according to Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat.

Addressing speculation circulating on social media regarding the case, Kamarul clarified that the victim is not a teenager, as claimed by some netizens. The police are actively probing the incident to determine the true motive behind the altercation.

“Yes, he is the head of the police station. We are still investigating the real motive of the incident,” stated Kamarul.

Netizens have strongly criticised the actions of the police officer after the 37-second video clip surfaced on social media platforms, prompting widespread condemnation.

Social media users also shared what they believe to be the name of the police station and the officer involved.

In the video, the police officer can be seen yelling and slapping the victim repeatedly, who did not retaliate. Yesterday, Kamarul announced that the police were alerted to the video, which first circulated on social media platform X.

“The police will investigate this matter in detail and urge members of the public or witnesses to come forward and make a report if they have any information to assist the investigation,” he said in a statement.

“The police will not compromise and will take appropriate legal action.” – January 13, 2024
