No such thing: Mas Ermieyati denies being one of 10 Bersatu MPs to back Anwar

Masjid Tanah MP also denies existence of factions within party, says focus is on their president

KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu’s Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has rejected claims that she is one of the 10 party members who will pledge support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before the next Dewan Rakyat sitting in February.

“No, no, (that is) not true,” the Bersatu Women wing chief told Scoop today.

“I want to categorically deny this. There is no such thing, and that is not true,”

In a press conference today, Bersatu’s Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said that another 10 Bersatu members will pledge allegiance to the Anwar and the unity government.

He did not announce the names of the mentioned MPs. However, he revealed that they are from Kedah, Pulau Pinang, and Perak.

Meanwhile, another three are from East Coast states – Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang – and two from Selangor and Melaka, he said.

Mas Ermieyati is the only Bersatu MP from Melaka.

Other than Mas Ermieyati, he also urged Bersatu’s high-profile leaders – such as Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (Larut), Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Beluran), Datuk Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu), and Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah) – to pledge support for the prime minister.

“These five are ‘orang kuat’. They left Umno and Barisan Nasional to form Bersatu, so they could help support the prime minister in many ways.

“The situation in Bersatu is unstable and could be the factor for these five MPs to switch their allegiance,” said Syed Hussin.

In addition to Syed Hussin, five Bersatu MPs have publicly stated their support for Anwar. They are Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tg Karang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).

With Zulkafperi’s announcement yesterday, this brings the total MP support for Anwar to 153 in the Dewan Rakyat.

Mas Ermieyati, who is also the Public Accounts Committee chairman refuted the alleged existence of two camps within Bersatu as claimed by Syed Hussin.

“I can confirm that there are no factions within Bersatu. Our focus is on Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“In any organisation or association, differing views and opinions are normal; they always occur. It would be inaccurate to claim that we all share the same opinions. When differences arise, we address them like a family,” she said

Meanwhile, Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid also denied being among the 10 other MPs expressing support for Anwar.

Being the only Bersatu MP in Terengganu, he said that Syed Hussin’s statement was false.

“That is entirely false – I have never been contacted by anyone related to this matter.

“The claim that Terengganu, one of the mentioned states, supposedly would support the government, is also untrue,” he stated.

He also dismissed the rumours suggesting that Bersatu MPs have expressed hopes for Hamzah to become the party’s new president.

“There is no basis to trust Syed Hussin’s claims,” he said. – January 26, 2024
