KUALA LUMPUR – MCA Youth has called on Transport Minister Anthony Loke to disclose the identity of the minister, whose official vehicle was tailgating an ambulance in Perak recently.

The wing’s deputy chief, Mike Chong Yew Chuan, also urged the ministry to suspend the driving licences of the errant minister and their driver.

“The act of a ministerial vehicle tailgating an ambulance not only sets a very bad example, but it also involves dangerous driving and disregards the safety of other road users.

“As transport minister, Loke must take this matter seriously and take stern action to show his determination to uphold traffic safety and the safety of road users.

“This incident is directly related to road safety issues, and if the transport minister does not take a stand or take the necessary action, it would allude to the perception that the transport ministry and the entire cabinet are condoning the reckless and dangerous driving behaviour,” Chong said in a statement today.

On February 3, a car with the word ‘Menteri’ on it was caught on camera tailgating an ambulance in an apparent attempt to avoid the traffic jam that built up from an accident on the North-South Expressway between Simpang Pulai and Tapah in Perak.

The incident sparked public outrage after video and photos of the incident went viral on social media. – February 6, 2024
