KUALA LUMPUR – Former Sarawak governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud is safe at home, state police say.
Sarawak police chief Datuk Mancha Ata said the ailing leader, aged 87, was at his residence in Kuching, according to Malaysiakini.
He declined to comment further and said police were still investigating reports lodged that he had been forcibly removed from hospital against medical advice.
The state police chief had previously confirmed a report filed alleging Taib’s wife, Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib, had “absconded” with her husband from a private hospital in Kuching late on Saturday night.
The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by an act that endangers the life or personal safety of others.
A second report was also filed over Raghad’s actions by a family member of Taib’s.
Yesterday, Syrian-born Raghad called for a stop to speculations and accusations against her, stating that her only concern was to care for her husband. She earlier denied removing Taib from hospital against doctors’ advice.
Taib, who is Sarawak’s longest-serving chief minister, stepped down as state governor on January 26. Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar succeeded him as head of the state. – February 7, 2024
