KUALA LUMPUR – The BK 160 Gabriel light aircraft that crashed in Kg Tok Muda, Kapar, yesterday did not have a black box.

According to an officer from the Transport Ministry’s agency, the aircraft lacked other critical components such as a cockpit voice recorder, a flight data recorder, and a global positioning system.

He said that the absence of these crucial systems would significantly complicate the process of investigating and identifying the cause of the plane crash.

“We will transport the plane wreckage to the hangar near Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang for further investigation,” he told reporters at the crash site in Kapar, Klang, today.

He said that the plane’s wreckage would then be gathered and reconstructed to determine the cause of the crash before being transported to the laboratory.

“We will conduct a thorough analysis, with the investigation expected to last a year. There is currently no definitive conclusion regarding the cause. We will inspect each component of the plane’s engine,” he said.

Another officer at the scene reported that an eyewitness saw the plane’s wing break in the air just before it crashed.

He added that the subsequent investigation will focus on the plane’s wings in addition to the engine.

“So far, it has been difficult to determine the primary cause of the plane crash. However, our investigation will focus on examining the wing, considering factors beyond the plane’s engine impact.

“We will thoroughly study all potential causes contributing to this incident. The public is encouraged to assist by reporting any small plane fragments they may come across,” he added.

Regarding whether aircraft without a communication device are permitted to fly, he stated that the question has been directed to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.

The bodies of the two victims involved in the incident were extracted from the plane wreckage at 8.11pm yesterday and promptly transported to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang.

The identities of the victims were confirmed as 30-year-old pilot Daniel Yee Hsiang Khoon and 42-year-old co-pilot Roshaan Singh Raina.

The two were members of the Air Adventure Flying Club and were on a recreational flight when the plane crashed. – February 14, 2024
