KUALA LUMPUR – Police have recovered fragments of human bones at the abandoned house in Tongkang Pechah, Batu Pahat, where the remains of 32-year-old single mother Mira Sharmila Samsusah (Bella) were found.

However, it is too soon to confirm if the bones belonged to Bella, who was brutally murdered last December, as DNA testing and results will take a month.

Batu Pahat police chief Ismail Dollah said in a statement today that his office received a tip-off from the public at 11.30am on February 28 about the bone fragments – six pieces from various parts of the deceased’s legs – in the abandoned house.

“The forensic team from the Johor police headquarters was called in to help recover the fragments. They were sent to the state Chemistry Department for DNA analysis on February 29.

“We expect the chemical analysis process to take a month. However, the public should not speculate about the recovery of the remains.”

Police also urged any member of the public who has information on the case to call 07-436-330.

In January, Bella’s boyfriend, Mohammad Haikal Mahfuz, 24, was charged with murdering the single mother.

The offence was committed between Jalan Kelapa Bali, Taman Soga and Jalan Parit Besar, Kg Parit Besar, as well as an abandoned house in Lorong Imam Jailani, Jalan Besar in Batu Pahat.

The accused was the one who led police to the remains in the Tongkang Pechah house.

Police had been investigating the disappearance of Bella until human bones were found in the house.

DNA tests have confirmed that the remains belong to the victim. Analysis showed a biological match between the samples taken from the skeleton and Bella’s older sister and mother.

Bella was last seen leaving her house in her boyfriend’s car at 11.50pm on December 14 last year to go to a nearby laundrette. – March 6, 2024
