KUALA LUMPUR – An old mansion known as the ’99-door mansion’ at Ladang Byram in Nibong Tebal, which is frequently the subject of paranormal investigations, has been damaged after being hit by a crane.

According to a social media post, the crane was believed to have been used by a foreign film crew in Penang and was reported to be unstable, causing it to fall and strike a part of the historically significant bungalow.

The individual who uploaded pictures on social media, however, failed to specify the date of the incident.

In a post, he said, “I am not sure whether a Chinese or Taiwanese film crew came here to shoot a video. Another historical site has been destroyed.”

As soon as the photos were posted, netizens were outraged by the incident, claiming that the crane was not properly positioned and was unstable.

Some even claimed that the incident occurred a few days ago.

The house, built during the British colonial era, has a distinct charm, owing to its claim to fame of having 99 doors.

It was said to have been surrounded by oil palm plantations in the past. However, tragedy struck three years ago when it succumbed to a devastating fire.

Built on approximately 0.5ha of land, the mansion harbours a dark history, accompanied by chilling tales of horror and mystery. – March 9, 2024
