KUALA LUMPUR – Renowned comedian Shahrol Shiro became the butt of some jokes after he mistakenly dropped his 6-year-old son off at the wrong school on the second day of the new academic session.

In a short video posted on Facebook, Shahrol, whose real name is Shahrol Azizie Azmi, said that he was shocked to receive a call from a teacher from the school a few hours after the mishap.

Shahrol stated that when he answered the phone, he thought his son had done something wrong, but the teacher told him that he was the one who made a mistake.

The call prompted Shahrol to rush to the school to meet with the teacher.

Upon arriving at the school’s office, Shahrol was met by a group of teachers who poked fun at him and made light-hearted jokes about the situation.

One of the teachers present said: “Thank goodness your son is smart,” while another quipped that his son may have preferred the school where he was dropped off.

Shahrol revealed that he was supposed to have sent his son to SK Tengku Mahmood in Kluang, Johor, where he enrolled, but ended up leaving the young lad at SK Kg Melayu, which is 3.4 km away.

However, Shahrol explained to the teacher that he and his wife have always discussed sending their son to SK Kg Melayu.

“My wife always said, ‘let’s send our son to SK Kg Melayu’. So in my head, he (is supposed) to be in SK Kg Melayu,” he said in the video.

Shahrol also told the teacher he met that his wife was startled to learn that the standard one pupil ended up in the wrong school.

Shahrol then apologised to his son, admitting the mistake.

While the video appears to be filled with lighthearted moments and banter, some X users have pointed out that fathers need to be more involved with their children’s lives.

“Fathers, please next time don’t leave it to your wife to handle everything, please get involved..!” an X user, @hawa_akira, said

Another user, @lomlmono, said: “Next time, always practice double confirming.” – March 14, 2024
