KUALA LUMPUR – An elderly couple died in a house fire in Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya, early this morning.

Damansara Fire and Rescue Department chief Ramli Harun confirmed this and said that the two victims were found in a two-storey house. They were pronounced dead by a Health Ministry medical officer.

He said Fire and Rescue station teams from Damansara and Petaling Jaya were promptly dispatched to the scene upon receiving an emergency call regarding the incident.

“In response to information received at 5.13am, officers from Damansara and Petaling Jaya stations were deployed to the location with fire rescue tender machinery, emergency service assistance unit vehicles, and the rapid intervention motorcycle unit,” he said in a statement today.

Upon arrival at the scene, Ramli said the team discovered a two-storey terraced house engulfed in flames, sustaining an estimated 70% damage.

“The fire affected a two-story house measuring 20x70sqft, causing significant damage to the main room on the top floor and the kitchen downstairs,” he added.

However, he said that another victim, a 14-year-old girl, had been rescued.

“The bodies of the two victims were subsequently handed over to the police for further action,” he said. – March 16, 2024
