KUALA LUMPUR – The allegation levelled by Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, claiming that he has been offered support by several individuals, including MPs from Bersatu, to back the government, is considered slanderous and malicious.
Speaking with Scoop, Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi further dismissed these allegations as false and purely fabricated.
“Yes, the allegation is slanderous and malicious. Tasek Gelugor’s (Wan Saiful) claims are not true; they are merely a fabrication,” he said today.
Previously, Wan Saiful urged the Dewan Rakyat to establish a committee to investigate two MPs whom he claimed were government “agents” to persuade other MPs to switch their support.
Wan Saiful named Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim and Zulkafperi, as well as three other individuals named Hasnan, Datuk Azman, and Datuk Rahim, as the parties involved in this effort.
He alleged that these individuals offered parliamentary allocations, project allocations totaling RM2 million, coverage of his wife’s medical expenses, legal fees for allocations in court, unspecified “tokens” of value, and the withdrawal of the court case.
Wan Saiful claimed that Mohd Azizi introduced him to two individuals known as Hasnan and Datuk Azman on January 17, while Zulkafperi introduced him to a person named Datuk Rahim.
He said that they, including Zulkafperi, sent a proposal containing the speeches they wanted him to deliver during the debate on the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat on February 28, in an attempt to influence his behaviour in the Dewan Rakyat.
Meanwhile, Mohd Azizi refuted Wan Saiful’s statement as slander intended to tarnish his reputation as a politician.
He further urged Wan Saiful to substantiate his allegations with evidence.
“I was shocked to hear about the accusations against me. I would like to stress that I never invited or summoned Wan Saiful to meet the prime minister.
“His claims are unfounded and intended to tarnish my reputation. Should they hold any truth, he should substantiate them with evidence like voice recordings or witnesses,” he added.
Mohd Azizi said that he would soon discuss the issue with the Dewan Rakyat Speaker before proceeding further against Wan Saiful. – March 23, 2024
