KUALA LUMPUR – The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that all Malaysians in Moscow have been reported safe in the aftermath of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall in the Russian capital earlier this morning.

“The Foreign Affairs Ministry, via the Malaysian Embassy in Moscow, has confirmed that all registered Malaysians and Malaysian students in Moscow have been accounted for and are safe,” it said in a statement today.

“Malaysians and Malaysian students in Moscow are advised to stay updated on the latest developments and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by the local authorities.”

The attack, which resulted in the deaths of at least 60 people and another 145 individuals injured, has also drawn swift condemnation from Malaysia.

The ministry also said Malaysia expresses its deepest condolences to the government and people of the Russian Federation, in particular the bereaved families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

“Malaysia reaffirms its stance in rejecting terrorism and violent extremism in all forms and manifestations,” it said.

“Malaysia continues to underscore the urgent need for a concerted international effort to eliminate the scourge of terrorism in a comprehensive and effective manner.”

Media reports said the incident unfolded at the Crocus City Hall in the Krasnogorsk district where at least four individuals clad in camouflage attire unleashed gunfire, causing chaos and devastation.

Russian authorities swiftly labelled the incident as a “terrorist attack,” prompting a robust response from emergency services.

Reports from Russian media indicate that 6,200 tickets had been purchased for the concert scheduled to feature the band Picnic. – March 23, 2024
