Moscow attack deplorable, has no place in this civilised world: Wisma Putra

Malaysia reiterates rejection of terrorism, violent extremism and calls for swift justice

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia reiterated its stance against terrorism and violent extremism in all their forms and manifestations, emphasising the urgent need for swift justice against the perpetrators of a terror attack in Moscow on Friday.

In a statement today, Wisma Putra said the appalling terror attack is deplorable.

“As stated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the rampage has no place in this civilised world.

“Malaysia joins the international community in expressing its condemnation of this horrific incident and reiterates its rejection of all forms of violence that destabilise the peace and security of any nation,” it said.

It said its embassies and offices worldwide remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Malaysians abroad, as well as advocating for dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Earlier today, Islamic State (Isis) released a video, apparently filmed by the gunmen responsible for the deadly attack on a Moscow concert hall.

The video posted on social media accounts associated with the Isis group showed several individuals with blurred faces and garbled voices, armed with assault rifles and knives.

Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the attack on a concert hall that killed more than 140 a “barbaric terrorist act” and vowed harsh retribution to all those involved.

In a televised address, he said all four gunmen had been arrested before they had a chance to cross the border into Ukraine. – March 24, 2024
