KUALA LUMPUR – Brunergy Utama Sdn Bhd has announced its coming high-speed rail project called the Trans-Borneo Railway, which will connect Kalimantan, Sarawak, Brunei and Sabah.
The Brunei-based company, announcing the project via its social media pages today, said that the project aimed to enhance Borneo’s transportation infrastructure with a 1,620-km railway track.
The project will be conducted in two phases, with an average distance of approximately 150km between each station and an expected train operating speed of 300 to 350km/h.
According to Brunergy, the anticipated average travel time between stations will be only 30 minutes.
The company announced that the initial phase of the railway project would start in Pontianak and end in Kota Kinabalu.
This phase will encompass Kota Kinabalu, Kimanis/Papar, Beaufort, Sipitang, Lawas, Bangar, Limbang, Bukit Panggal, Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Sri Aman, Kuching, Sambas, Singkawang, Mempawah and Pontianak.
The subsequent phase of the project will extend to northern and eastern Kalimantan, establishing connections between key routes and Borneo’s largest city, Samarinda, as well as Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara.
The routes will involve Long Seridan, Bekalalan, Long Bawan, Malinau, Tg Selor, Tg Redeb, Pengadan, Lubuk Tutung, Bontang, Samarinda and Balikpapan.
The connecting routes between these two phases will be in Tutong, Brunei, which is a strategic location that will function as the railway’s main hub. – March 31, 2024
