KUALA LUMPUR – Mitra Kembara Sdn Bhd and GrabFin Malaysia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to offer umrah financing in aiding Muslim Grab driver-partners to fulfil their holy pilgrimage.

Representing Mitra Kembara Sdn Bhd at the MoU signing was group managing director Fazil Khan Abdul Kadir. He said this strategic partnership is aligned with their mission to provide affordable travel packages to the holy land for pilgrims.

“We have made great efforts to customise a variety of packages that cater to various needs of all Muslims while ensuring comfort and religious obligations are not compromised – with cost never being a deterrent.

“We believe that every Muslim, regardless of social status and income, should be able to fulfil their haj and umrah pilgrimage.

“Therefore, we are humbled to partner with Grab Malaysia to be able to offer this service to their driver-partners with an affordable and fuss-free package to fulfil their religious pilgrimage,” said Fazil at the MoU signing.

The customised umrah travel package offered by Mitra Kembara for Grab driver-partners is a 12-day 10-night package that includes accommodations, full board meals, umrah visa, as well as economy flight tickets via Saudia Airlines, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar, Malaysia Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air Arabia, SalamAir or Air Asia.

Additionally, they will also receive a special gift from Mitra Kembara consisting of items such as a luggage set with tags, a guidebook to prepare them for umrah, a lanyard and a Saudi SIM card to prepare them for their journey.

The introduction of umrah financing follows after the recently organised Cabaran Ramadan-Umrah Grab, whereby Grab Malaysia offered its users and community of drivers and delivery-partners a chance to win a fully sponsored travel package.

“The response was overwhelming as we saw almost 539,000 users, as well as driver and delivery-partners participating in the challenge.

“This partnership is significant to us as it furthers Grab’s collaborative efforts with like-minded partners to first democratise financing solutions so that our driver and delivery-partners can continue to earn while addressing their larger financial needs.

“This is also part of our commitment to help Malaysians meet their needs of today and create a lasting impact on those who have advanced and grown together with Grab

“Mitra Kembara is a renowned name with more than 50 years of experience in providing umrah and holiday travel and services,” said the head of GrabFin Malaysia (Financing), Henry Ho.

Present at the signing was Sedania Innovator Bhd’s fintech subsidiary, Sedania As Salam Capital Sdn Bhd.

Following the well-received Grab Cash Financing-i, this is the second time GrabFin Malaysia is partnering with Sedania to enable financing for Grab driver-partners.

GrabFin Malaysia via Sedania will be offering Grab driver-partners access to shariah-compliant financing for their pilgrimage.

Sedania will offer an allowance of RM300 to the pioneering group of Grab driver-partners who apply for umrah financing with the travel period between August and November.

The allowance is aimed at helping to cover some of the expenses associated with their sacred journey.

The umrah financing kicks off today with the travel period between August and November.

Eligible Grab driver-partners below the age of 75 will receive communications about the financing package with a link to apply conveniently, with no documents and collateral required. – April 3, 2024
