Don’t spread misinformation over stadium project: exco

Izham Hashim rebukes ‘meddling’ Parti Hijau Malaysia protem secretary Abdul Razak Ismail for confusing public with untruths

KUALA LUMPUR – A Selangor executive councillor has criticised Parti Hijau Malaysia’s (PHM) protem secretary for being “disruptive” over the redevelopment of the Shah Alam Stadium.

Speaking to Scoop, Infrastructure, Public Amenities, and Agriculture Modernisation Committee chairman Izham Hashim rebuked PHM’s Abdul Razak Ismail for being “menyibuk” (interfering) in the revitalisation project.

Izham said that individuals such as Razak should not continue to dip their hands in the matter by sharing incorrect and inaccurate information.

“He (Razak) is problematic, so he doesn’t need to meddle. There are no issues (in the stadium project) because everything is undertaken by MRCB (Malaysia Resource Corporation Bhd),” he said yesterday.

Public listed MRCB is majority owned by the Employees Provident Fund.

Recently, Razak, through Facebook, alleged that the Selangor state government’s investment arm, Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) Selangor, as the project owner, had signed a memorandum of understanding for the demolition work of the stadium with a company with a paid-up capital of RM100.

Razak also shared a copy of the financial information of the involved company obtained through the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

However, a check by Scoop in SSM documents found that the developer in question, Lembaran Prospek Sdn Bhd, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MRCB Land Sdn Bhd with a paid-up capital of RM5 million.

It is common corporate practice for the parent company to establish a subsidiary to manage a particular project.

Razak, a former PKR member who was sacked from the party two years ago, is among those consistently criticising the project known as the Shah Alam Sports Complex.

Apart from Razak, an Australian blogger, Murray Hunter, is also among those who have criticised the federal and Selangor state governments.

Hunter has come under fire for inflammatory statements against the royal institution and is now the subject of a Blue Notice issued by Bukit Aman to Thailand, where he resides.

Hunter, it was reported, is a former lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) but has been terminated by the university since August 14, 2015.

In a statement, UniMAP said it has no affiliation with the said Hunter.

On March 1, the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said Bukit Aman had sought assistance from Interpol to locate Hunter via the Blue Notice.

“We have opened an investigation file regarding the 3R (race, religion, royalty) issue,” he said.

MBI Selangor chief executive Saipolyazan M. Yusop previously said that the redevelopment plan for the Shah Alam Stadium is proceeding smoothly, with the demolition work expected to start in May or June.

Saipolyazan said the installation of barriers is ongoing and a notice to proceed will be issued as soon as Lembaran Prospek meets the initial requirements.

He said the developer was given three months after the contract was signed on February 6 to plan the demolition work, taking into account the environmental impact, meeting the requirements of the local authorities, and minimising disruption to the surrounding residents.

“The stadium demolition work is expected to take a year. We will also explore certain methods to expedite the demolition work,” he said. – April 5, 2024
