Time to drown out negative noises, influences seeking to divide us: Projek57

Social enterprise urges Malaysian public to spread #MZB365 campaign to make a difference

KUALA LUMPUR – The public is far from helpless in efforts to restore tolerance and harmony in Malaysia as everyone can play a role in spreading positivity and awareness, said local social enterprise Projek57.

Its co-founder, Collin Swee, said now was the time to amplify our voices above the negative noises and influences that sought to divide Malaysians based on race and religion.

“There may be a feeling of helplessness among us, the public, that we can’t do anything to change the situation. This is not true. Every person just needs to do a little bit. Just sharing positive news can make a difference.

“Encourage others not to share what is fake or negative. Instead, inspire them not to give up. Spread the #MZB365 movement on their social media and shine a light rather than curse the darkness. You have the power to make a difference,” he told Scoop.

Commenting on the “Maaf Zahir Batin 365 (#MZB365)” campaign recently launched by civil society groups, Swee said it was a timely initiative.

He said there had been numerous negative influences and “noises” stemming from individuals with ill intentions and personal agendas. These influences have led to significant hurt and mistrust among different races and faiths.

However, he said there was every hope that Malaysia could become a successful and united society and country.

“But we have to work at it. There is no miracle.

“Who will initiate the process of reconciliation and bridge-building? It begins with projects and initiatives like #MZB365. Seeking forgiveness is the first step, with reconciliation to follow.

“In Malaysia, the ethos of forgiveness and reconciliation resonates across races and faiths, embodying our cultural values and beliefs. #MZB365 is easily understood and can be implemented by all.”

Founded in 2015, Projek57 has been undertaking projects and workshops aimed at inspiring people to take pride in being Malaysian, promoting values such as acceptance, strength in diversity and progressiveness. – April 14, 2024
