KUALA LUMPUR – Police will be deploying electric scooters to facilitate patrols at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) following the shooting incident there yesterday.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said this was part of efforts to increase security at KLIA terminals 1 and 2.
Hussien said the Selangor government had long planned and approved the purchase of the electric scooters to improve operations in the area.
“This idea has been in the works since the beginning of the year.
“The Selangor government has agreed to use them for the state police. With the use of electric scooters, patrols will be faster,” he told a press conference today.
Hussein said he has also advised airport management to improve security measures, particularly in screening individuals carrying fireworks or weapons in public areas.
“We may be able to detect these earlier (by improving the measures),” he said.
He recommended closing both sides of the lanes, whether in arrival or departure areas, near the airport’s entrance, as it is seen as a security risk.
Hussein also suggested closing vehicle lanes closest to the main entrances of KLIA’s departure and arrival halls.
This follows a shooting incident in which a private bodyguard sustained serious injuries after taking a bullet to the stomach yesterday morning.
Initial police investigations revealed that the suspect, who is still at large, intended to shoot his estranged wife, Farah Md Isa, also known as Farah Cie, who was waiting for Umrah pilgrims to return at KLIA Terminal 1.
Hussein said the suspect had fired at least two shots, one of which hit the bodyguard. – April 15, 2024
