KUALA LUMPUR – PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil finds it “interesting” that top PAS leaders opted to attend a Raya open house in Perlis rather than show their support for the Perikatan Nasional candidate in Kuala Kubu Baharu during the nomination process.

He added that he was not sure what PAS leaders were trying to convey by being a no-show this morning.

“I see the top PAS leadership; all of them are here in Perlis. I’m not sure what it means when they are not together (with the Perikatan Nasional candidate) in Kuala Kubu Baharu, but anyway, I had also been there recently,” he was quoted as saying in Kuala Perlis today.

Fahmi, who is on a three-day working visit to Perlis, attended the Jiwa Madani programme in Kg Seberang Ramai.

PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man told Scoop that the party is not boycotting the PN candidate, who is Bersatu’s acting Hulu Selangor chief.

“Today, PAS has a Hari Raya celebration in Perlis, so most of our leaders are there. We have instructed our election machinery in Selangor to accompany the candidate today, so there is no issue here.”

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS has instructed its election machinery from other states to support Khairul.

The open house was at Dewan 2020 in Kangar, from 11am to 2pm.

Among the PAS leaders who were in Perlis were spiritual adviser Datuk Hashim Jasin, president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Tuan Ibrahim, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao, PN’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Hafizah Zainuddin of Parti Rakyat Malaysia and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xie.

It is held following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

There are two weeks of campaigning before voters cast their ballots on May 11. Early voting is on May 7. – April 27, 2024
