KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has criticised Perikatan Nasional (PN) for engaging in immature politics and resorting to insulting their opponents.
His remarks came after certain PN supporters were seen displaying a replica logo which combined DAP and Umno logos, where Umno’s “keris” was replaced with rockets to resemble DAP’s emblem during the by-election campaign in Kuala Kubu Baharu today.
In a Facebook post, Akmal noted the importance of conducting political discourse maturely without resorting to dirty tactics.
He said that while differing opinions are acceptable, demeaning opponents contradicts Islamic teachings.
“We can express our differences respectfully. Resorting to insults is unacceptable.
“Ultimately, it is in the hands of Allah to determine victory and defeat. Islam does not condone campaigns that involve insulting rivals,” he said.
Responding to criticism over similar past campaigns conducted by the ruling alliance, Akmal urged for an end to the blame game, emphasising the need to elevate the nation’s political discourse.
“We cannot justify our actions by pointing fingers at others. When will our political landscape evolve if we continue down this path?” he asked.
He advocated for supporters to focus on promoting positive ideas and engaging in constructive debates rather than resorting to offensive tactics, in line with the principles of Islam.
Akmal also urged voters to choose leaders who demonstrate integrity and sincerity.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat, previously held by the late Lee since 2013, will witness a four-cornered contest in the upcoming poll on May 11.
This involves Pang Sock Tao (Pakatan Harapan), Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and Nyau Ke Xin (independent). – April 28, 2024
