KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is currently investigating a senior leader in the northern region over alleged power abuse.
An MACC source said the individual is suspected of having appointed several companies for supply projects worth approximately RM300,000 while having his own interest in the companies.
The source also said that the individual is also suspected of appointing several other companies, which are related to his son, for road repair and maintenance projects.
The project involved about RM1 million allocations from the menteri besar’s office in a northern state.
However, the source did not reveal the specific state involved.
The source added that this project is believed to be monopolised by the individual’s son, through several company licenses under his control.
These offences are believed to have been committed between January 2023 and March 2024, said the source.
“The companies are also suspected of having submitted documents with false details for the works, in addition to being given a commission of approximately 5% of the project value.
“So far, 15 companies have been identified to be controlled by the leader’s son. And among the works carried out is the supply of mineral water as well as hampers and souvenirs,” the source said.
