KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Johor has arrested two senior officials from a water supply company in the state for allegedly accepting bribes.
According to sources, the two male suspects, aged 36 and 40, were arrested at the Selangor MACC office around 2pm yesterday.
It is understood that the investigation began following a series of complaints dating back to 2023, alleging that the two suspects had accepted bribes from the owners of two contractor companies.
These bribes were allegedly given in exchange for facilitating the companies’ acquisition of service and supply contracts from the water supply company.
The suspects were also implicated in the act of submitting a document containing false information regarding a donation application for a programme totaling RM3.3 million, despite the programme not being fully implemented.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.
The case is currently under investigation under Section 16(a)(A) and Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
All the suspects will be brought to the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court at 8.30am this morning to apply for remand. – April 30, 2024
