KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, or Chegubard, pleaded not guilty to a charge of issuing seditious statements over the alleged casino project in Forest City at the Johor Bahru sessions court today.

According to the charge, the 45-year-old politician made seditious remarks via his Facebook account under the name of Che GuBard at Mutiara Villa, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, at 6.30pm on April 26.

The charge is brought under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948, and punishable under Section 4(1) of the same act with a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both.

Dressed in a white shirt and black slacks, Badrul, accompanied by his lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, arrived at the court complex at 8.50am.

Badrul, who was handcuffed when brought into the cybercrimes court in Kuala Lumpur yesterday and charged, was seen walking with free hands today.

The 45-year-old yesterday chose to stand trial on two charges: making seditious remarks and defaming Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, as they were read before sessions judge Siti Aminah Ghazali. – April 30, 2024
