MCMC presents IRC 2024: Kuala Lumpur gears up for global dialogue on innovation and safety

Themed ‘Aligning Innovation With Safety For A Sustainable Future’, conference aims to be a dynamic and engaging gathering with industry stakeholders

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is set to host the International Regulatory Conference 2024 (IRC 2024) next week to foster discussions on innovations, emerging technologies, regulatory frameworks, and approaches within the communications and multimedia industry.

Scheduled for May 6 and 7 at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur hotel, the conference themed “Aligning Innovation With Safety For A Sustainable Future” promises to be a dynamic and engaging gathering, drawing stakeholders from around the world to exchange ideas, share insights, and explore the vibrant landscape of the industry.

The IRC 2024 seeks to transcend geographical boundaries, offering participants a unique opportunity to engage in active dialogue and forge valuable relationships.

The conference will be officiated by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and safety in the communications and multimedia sectors.

The conference will feature a lineup of keynote addresses, panel discussions, and fireside chats covering a wide range of topics relevant to the industry. 

Attendees can look forward to insightful sessions such as “From Policy to Practice: Challenges in Implementing the Online Safety Act” and “Safeguarding the Online Space: The Australian Experience,” where speakers from regulatory bodies will share their experiences and insights.

One of the highlights of the conference will be the session on “Tackling Online Harms – Significance of Effective Policy, Regulatory and Technological Solutions for a Safer Online Space,” moderated by MCMC Commissioner Derek Fernandez.

The panellists for this session include Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, a Cambodian Ministry of Post and Telecommunications representative, Unicef Malaysia Chief of Child Protection Saskia Blume, and CelcomDigi chief executive Datuk Idham Nawawi.

Another exciting session, “Empowering Digital Markets and Entrepreneurship in Asean,” will explore the multi-layered dynamics of supporting local merchants and the transformative role of digital technologies in e-commerce.

In addition to the engaging sessions, the conference will also feature exhibitions from leading organisations in the communications and multimedia industries. 

Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with exhibitors such as Content Forum, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad, Digital Nasional Berhad, and Google, Blackberry Cybersecurity, CelcomDigi,  Maxis, Ookla, TM, Umobile, and YES, among others.
