KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to have an online meeting with tech giant Google today.
While he did not provide specific details of the meeting, the finance minister said foreign investors continue to show interest in Malaysia.
“We are currently focusing on economic growth, and I see a considerable interest from foreign investors,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Department monthly meeting here today.
Last week, Microsoft announced that it will invest RM10.5 billion over the next four years to support Malaysia’s digital transformation – the single largest investment in its 32-year history in the country.
This move, it said, will boost the skills of 300,000 Malaysians.
It was also reported that the investment will also see the building of a national centre of excellence in AI, improvements to national cyber security, and support for system developers in Malaysia.
Anwar said Malaysia welcomed Microsoft’s investment decision, citing it as proof of the country’s strong economic fundamentals, political stability, and investor-friendly approach. – May 6, 2024
