KUALA LUMPUR – Two local men aged 25 were detained yesterday afternoon in relation to an incident of a petrol bomb being thrown at an entertainment centre in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng here on Thursday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the duo were detained around 3pm at a house in Batu Caves.

“We will be applying for a remand order (today). Based on initial investigations, the incident does not involve any extremist elements,” he told reporters during an Aidilfitri event at the Sentul district police headquarters last night.

Police have taken statements from the premises owner and the nightclub manager to aid its investigations.

It is being investigated under Section 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Penal Code.

CCTV footage revealed the incident occurred around 2.18am on May 9. The video shows at least four men parking their motorcycles on the side of the road prior to the incident.

Subsequently, they were seen hurling an object, suspected to be a petrol bomb, before fleeing the scene. – May 11, 2024
