KUALA LUMPUR – The Elena Cooke Education Fund (ECEF) is now accepting scholarship applications from students with average academic performance and those from low-income households, offering them an opportunity to pursue higher education.

Established in memory of the late Miss Elena Cooke, the esteemed former principal of Bukit Bintang Girls’ School, ECEF aims to extend financial support to students whose household income is below RM60,000 annually.

Speaking to Scoop, the fund’s chairperson Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim said ECEF is focused on helping less fortunate students with average scores to pursue their higher education, in contrast to other scholarship initiatives that only assist top scorers.

“We are not looking for top scholars or straight-A students for our programme. We are looking for needy students who do not have the financial equipment to pursue diploma or degree studies.

Eligible applicants include those from financially challenged families with a minimum academic performance of 3As in SPM, 2Bs in STPM, or 6Bs in the Unified Examination Certificate examinations.

While applicants from affluent backgrounds may apply, Azimah said ECEF’s preference for supporting students facing significant financial hurdles – including those from single-parent households, families with disabled siblings, and even students from orphanages.

Applicants from both public and private universities are encouraged to apply, with the selection committee shortlisting candidates for full scholarships covering tuition fees and living expenses.

Interested students can visit the scholarship page at https://bbgs.com.my to review the terms and conditions and submit their applications before the June 10 deadline. – June 3, 2024
