Evacuation ordered after bomb threat at Tourism Ministry complex in Putrajaya

Police bomb squad, Fire Dept at scene after suspect package delivered to building

KUALA LUMPUR – Staff and visitors have been ordered to evacuate the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry complex in Putrajaya due to a bomb threat on the building’s 14th floor.

The 14th floor houses the office of Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

According to Astro Awani, the package suspected to be a bomb was delivered to the ministry through a delivery service.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel as well as police’s bomb disposal unit are said to be at the scene.

“Ministry staffers have seen the package, which appears to be a bomb. As of now, we have not received confirmation (on the package’s contents),” said Astro Awani’s senior deputy vice-president of branded content Zaiful Ariffin.

“We have been instructed to evacuate the building as a safety precaution.”

Scoop has reached out to the Fire and Rescue Department as well as police for more information on the incident. – June 5, 2024
