PETALING JAYA – Police will seek an extension of the remand period for Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s parents to facilitate further investigations.

Speaking to Scoop, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the application would be filed once the current remand period, granted by the Petaling Jaya magistrates’ court last week, ends tomorrow.

He said all aspects are still under investigation.

“Yes, the remand will continue tomorrow,” he added.

However, he refused to reveal who else would be called for questioning.

Last week, Zayn Rayyan’s parents were remanded for seven days at the Petaling Jaya magistrates’ court to assist in the investigation into the murder of their autistic child, whose body was discovered near Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, on December 6 last year.

They were remanded under Section 302 of the Penal Code to assist the police investigation into the case.

On June 4, former deputy public prosecutor Fahmi Abd Moin was appointed to represent Zayn Rayyan’s parents.

On December 6, last year, Zayn Rayyan’s body was found in a creek about 200m from his family’s home at Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya.

The victim was confirmed to have been murdered based on the autopsy, which revealed injuries to his neck and body.

The day before, police confirmed they had received a report on the child’s disappearance from his family.

Meanwhile, Fahmi, who is representing the two couples, told Scoop that they had been notified about the police’s application to extend the remand.

He also said that he had not yet been able to meet Zayn Rayyan’s parents.

“I am still awaiting a response to the letter (application) I submitted to meet them at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters,” he said. – June 6, 2024
