KUALA LUMPUR – Police have remanded a 47-year-old local man for allegedly employing 43 foreigners to illegally work at a birds’ nest factory in Jempol, Negri Sembilan.
The individual was arrested during an operation by the Jempol district police headquarters on June 8, during which the first floor of a lot in the Bahau Business Centre was raided by authorities.
Police found 20 females and 23 males – all Vietnamese – who were at work cleaning and processing birds’ nests.
Checks found that the workers did not have permits to be employed by the suspect.
A total of 18 rooms in the premises had also been turned into living areas for the workers, who had valid passports, but had overstayed their time in Malaysia.
The raid was executed after two days of surveillance on the premises, during which time police observed that the suspect came and went in a “suspicious manner”.
He was remanded at the Kuala Pilah court on June 9, with his remand set to expire on June 16, while the migrant workers are detained under immigration remand for 14 days. – June 13, 2024
