Nine-year-old boy killed in crocodile attack in Sandakan

The victim was attacked right in front of his family, while they were relaxing by a river

SANDAKAN – A nine-year-old boy died today after sustaining serious injuries in a crocodile attack at a river near Kg Lembaga, Mile 8, Jalan Datuk Tay.

The victim, identified as Mohd Radhi Randi, was attacked by a crocodile during a recreational activity with his family. The attack occurred right in front of his family.

In a video that went viral on WhatsApp, the victim’s mother is seen shouting and crying for help as they helplessly watch the incident from the river bank.

In a statement, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department reported that they received a distress call at 12.16pm today. 

A total of 11 firefighters from the Sandakan fire station were dispatched to the incident.

A search-and-rescue operation was launched immediately. The victim’s body was discovered by villagers at around 3pm, approximately 500m from where the attack occurred.

The search and rescue operation was also assisted by police and civil defence personnel. – June 23, 2024
