NIBONG TEBAL – Perikatan Nasional has retained the Sg Bakap seat in today’s by-election with a majority of 4,133 votes over Pakatan Harapan, according to the unofficial result.

The coalition’s candidate, PAS’ Abidin Ismail, clinched victory by securing 14,074 votes, while PKR’s Joohari Ariffin garnered 9,941 votes.

PAS won the seat in last year’s Penang state election through Nor Zamri Latiff, whose death on 24 May prompted the poll for the state assembly seat.

Nor Zamri had won the seat in a straight contest against Pakatan Harapan in last year’s Penang state election with a majority of just 1,563 votes. – July 6, 2024
