16-year-old boy perishes after drowning in river near Sepang

The boy had been swimming with a group of friends when he was swept away

KUALA LUMPUR – A 16-year-old boy drowned after being swept away by strong river currents in Sepang yesterday.

The victim, identified as Nik Ahmad Muzakkir Nik Razali, had drowned while swimming with a group of friends.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received a distress call at around 4.41pm.

“A total of 16 personnel from the Cyberjaya, Shah Alam, and Port Klang fire stations were deployed to the scene.

“They arrived at the scene along Jalan Meranti 2, Kampung Pulai Meranti, and found that a teenage boy had drowned while swimming there with a group of friends,” he said in a statement.

At around 6.36pm the victim’s body was found about 30m from where he went missing, Ahmad Mukhlis said.

“Medical personnel at the scene pronounced him dead, and the body was handed over to the police for further action,” he added. – July 20, 2024
