KLIA Terminal 2 check-ins back on track after global IT chaos

AirAsia staff seen assisting passengers at check-in kiosks throughout departure hall, ensuring efficient retrieval of boarding passes

SEPANG – The self-check-in process at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA Terminal 2) ran smoothly today without any congestion. 

Staff from low-cost airline AirAsia were seen assisting the public in using check-in kiosks located throughout the departure hall to obtain boarding passes.

The measure was taken in response to last Friday’s global IT system outage, which impacted airport operations worldwide, including Malaysia.

AirAsia resumed its online check-in operations at 2pm yesterday.

AirAsia deputy chief executive officer (airline operation) Datuk Captain Chester Voo was reported as saying that AirAsia would continue to monitor the situation and mobilise its staff at the departure hall to assist passengers.

Mohd Haris Halil, who was bound for Nanning, China, said he performed the check-in using the kiosk and did not encounter any issues.

“So far so good, no problems at all. Everything is fine… the terminal is not crowded. AirAsia staff here is very helpful,” he said, adding that he took the airline’s advice and arrived at the terminal early.  

Meanwhile, Norashikin Jumad, 42, who was heading to Kuching, expressed satisfaction with the check-in process using the kiosks, as she did not encounter any issues.

Due to the global disruption, major institutions such as airlines, banks, media channels, and hospitals in several countries were reported to have been affected.

The reports cited issues linked to global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike Holdings Inc, an American cybersecurity technology company based in Austin, Texas, that provides penetration workload and endpoint security, threat intelligence, and cyberattack services. – July 21, 2024
