Temperatures are expected to reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days

KUALA LUMPUR – The Meteorological Department has put out a Level 1 hot weather alert for several states that will last the weekend, with Pahang the most affected.

The department announced on Facebook this morning that areas in Pahang affected are Raub, Temerloh, Maran, Bentong, and Rompin.

Other areas affected are Gombak in Selangor, Larut and Matang in Perak and Kuala Krai in Kelantan.

A Level 1 or alert warning is for temperature predictions of between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.

This is followed by two more serious levels – Level 2 (heat wave), for temperatures ranging from 37 to 40 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days, and Level 3 (extreme heat wave) for temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and above, also for three consecutive days.

Online users responded to the department’s post by questioning if outdoor school activities should continue during the hot weather and whether schools should be closed to preserve children’s health.

Syakiena Hanifa commented that ”outdoor activities at school are still going on as usual, it’s the school sports season, please monitor closely so that no one becomes a victim of heat stroke.”

Another social media user,  Siti Faridah Aryon, urged parents to keep a close watch on their children.

“My kids have had fever on two different occasions, it is really hot, and kids are getting sick easily. The doctor advises to drink lots of water,” she said. – July 26, 2024
