Two dead in blast near Sarawak oil platform, another injured

Victims died at the scene, another rushed to hospital for further treatment

KUALA LUMPUR – An explosion involving a vessel near an oil platform in Bintulu, Sarawak, has resulted in the deaths of two crew members and left another injured.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Hendery Ardimanshah said that they received a call regarding the incident at 12.57am.

Upon arrival, rescue personnel found all three victims unconscious.

“We received a call from the Health Ministry to assist in treating the affected individuals.

“It is understood that all three were victims of the vessel explosion, and our role was to assist the Health Ministry in managing their injuries,” Hendery said, as reported by Utusan Sarawak.

Two victims were confirmed dead at the scene, while the injured person was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Muhamad Firdaus and George, while the injured victim is Ahmad Zahid. – August 3, 2024
