KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has arrived at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) building to have his statement recorded by the police over his speech made, which allegedly disrespected the royals during the Nenggiri by-election campaign recently.
Former prime minister Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, arrived at his Mida office at KL Sentral around 10.30am today.
Muhyiddin, who appeared in high spirits when greeted by members of the press gathered here, was accompanied by Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Bersatu vice president Datuk Radzi Jidin and Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau were also spotted entering the building around half an hour after Muhyiddin’s arrival.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain previously said police will meet Muhyiddin here at 11am regarding his recent speech during the Nenggiri by-election, in which he mentioned the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Muhyiddin’s speech courted controversy after the public and political quarters accused him of touching on 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues, causing police reports to be filed against him nationwide.
In the speech, Muhyiddin was alleged to have disputed the duties and role of the previous Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, as part of his lamentations on not being given the prime minister’s post after the 2022 general election.
Muhyiddin’s speech also drew the wrath of Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, who wanted the police to take decisive action without compromise against the Pagoh MP.
On Monday, Muhyiddin had defended his “factual” speech as one that had no intention of insulting the former king, adding that he believes his statement does not violate any law of the country. – August 21, 20243
