KUALA LUMPUR – MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has urged Putrajaya to thoroughly investigate a series of technical issues and emergency landings involving national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS).
Expressing concern over a potential decline in public confidence in MAS, Wee highlighted eight reported incidents involving the airline since 2023, raising questions about the continued safety of its flights.
Wee, who previously served as transport minister, warned that unless efforts are made to restore MAS’ reputation, the airline could face significant financial losses.
“This seems to be a crisis of confidence among passengers in MAS, which is likely to damage the country’s reputation and potentially lead to losses for Malaysia Aviation Group if these incidents continue, which will ultimately affect the country’s economy,” Wee said in a Facebook post today.
The call to action follows a recent incident where a MAS flight bound for Medina was forced to return to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) due to a cabin pressurisation issue.
This incident mirrors a similar occurrence on Tuesday, when Shanghai-bound flight MH386 had to return to KLIA due to pressurisation problems.
Additionally, flight MH128 from Melbourne to KLIA was diverted back to Alice Springs on the same day due to mid-air engine troubles. – August 23, 2024
