Another hole in the ground: drain collapses in Kg Kerinchi

DBKL says preliminary safety works done around area last night

2:32 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Part of a drain along Jalan Pantai Permai in Kg Kerinchi, here, collapsed last night, leaving a gaping hole in the ground.

City Hall (DBKL), which announced the incident on Facebook, said the collapse occurred last night.

“Preliminary safety works such as installing safety ropes, barriers and cones around the area were done at 10pm yesterday,” it said.

Pictures posted on DBKL’s Facebook show a huge void next to a road, with part of a pavement caving in and taking down the drain structure with it into the hole.

The incident follows rainy weather in the capital city and comes four days after a sinkhole appeared on Jalan Masjid India on Friday morning, swallowing a woman who has yet to be found.

Search operations in the sewers under the city centre area are underway, with no leads other than a pair of slippers belonging to the woman, a 48-year-old Indian tourist. – August 27, 2024
