KUALA LUMPUR – Zahin Zainal is poised to become Bersatu’s youth chief, based on unofficial results from the party’s recent polls.
According to a statement from Armada Bersatu’s polling centre, Zahin defeated Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham by a margin of 76 votes. Zahin received a total of 2,432 votes after the tally from 112 of the 115 eligible divisions.
Votes from the Bangi and Krau divisions were excluded due to their failure to hold a conference, while the Ampang division’s votes were disregarded after their conference was nullified.
“We extend our gratitude to all representatives and staff who contributed to this election process with the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism.
“The official results are pending confirmation by the Party Election Committee (JPP), which will announce them in due course,” the statement read.
Earlier this month, reports indicated concerns among Bersatu members that the relationship between PAS and Bersatu’s youth wings could be strained if Hilman, considered an ally of Selangor Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, were to win.
Incumbent Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal did not defend his position, having crossed the age limit, and is reportedly aiming for a seat on the party’s supreme council. – October 27, 2024
