KUALA LUMPUR – American rapper Macklemore has cancelled his eagerly awaited performance at the After Race Fest 2024, scheduled for today at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), following the conclusion of the Malaysia MotoGP.

The festival’s organisers, Hi Five Entertainment Sdn Bhd, confirmed the cancellation, attributing it to “personal reasons” communicated by Macklemore’s team, and expressed their regret over the sudden change.

“This decision was taken with a heavy heart and is not taken lightly by Macklemore and his team,” Hi Five Entertainment stated.

Macklemore, widely known for his 2012 hit “Thrift Shop,” was set to headline the festival’s Phase 1 lineup, sharing the stage with Californian rock band Smash Mouth, Indonesian rock band Nidji, Malaysian pop rock band 6ixth Sense, and local girl group De Fam.

Despite Macklemore’s absence, the After Race Fest 2024 will continue as planned, with organisers assuring attendees that they have worked meticulously to deliver an unforgettable event.

“We have taken the utmost initiative and detailed preparation in making this festival an unforgettable experience despite the unfortunate cancellation by Macklemore,” the statement read.

The festival is scheduled at 4pm today, transforming the helipad at SIC into a vibrant concert venue.

Macklemore’s performance would have marked his debut in Malaysia, where he has a strong fan base.

His popularity among local music enthusiasts surged recently after he voiced support for Gaza residents amid ongoing conflicts, further amplifying interest in his appearance.

Organisers concluded with a message of gratitude to the fans for their understanding and continued support, expressing empathy for the disappointment shared by those who had looked forward to seeing Macklemore perform live. — November 3, 2024
