KUALA LUMPUR – The cause of death for three of the four individuals who died after attending the Pinkfish New Year’s Countdown Festival in Bandar Sunway was due to stimulant drug intoxication.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed this in a statement today, where he also said that the pathology report for the fourth victim is still pending.

He said that investigations remain ongoing, with police having recorded statements from 53 witnesses so far. One individual is still under medical observation but in stable condition.

“One more individual remains hospitalised in stable condition but under close medical observation. The case will be referred to the coroner once investigations are complete,” he said.

Three men aged between 20 and 30 were arrested between January 8 and 12 on suspicion of selling MDMA (ecstasy) at the concert. Police said some attendees purchased drugs inside the venue, while others obtained them outside.

The arrests followed reports from University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), which treated several concertgoers who exhibited symptoms of drug intoxication. – February 19, 2025
