KUALA LUMPUR – The massive gas pipe fire in Jalan Putra Harmoni Putra Heights, Subang Jaya has visibly subsided at 2pm.
Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said the radius of the blaze has also decreased even though his team are still monitoring the incident location.
When asked about the allegations that the fire was due to digging works near the gas pipeline, Nor Hisham said it is too early to identify the cause of the incident.
“It is too early to provide a statement on the cause of the fire. The investigation will be headed by the police, Department of Safety and Health and other relevant agencies.
“Once the probe is completed, we will notify the public of the cause. There have been statements issued by various parties, but we’re unable to provide a confirmation yet.”
At least 112 people were hurt and 49 houses damaged in the 8.10am gas pipe blaze today.
Selangor deputy police chief Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan earlier said the victims were residents of Taman Harmoni and Kampung Kuala Kuala Sungai Baharu.
“Of the 112 victims, 63 have been sent to Cyberjaya, Serdang and Putrajaya hospitals for treatment as they suffered from burns, breathing difficulties and other injuries.
“The other 49 received initial medical attention at the Sri Maha Kaliamman temple in Subang Jaya,” he said in a press conference at the Fire and Rescue operations centre.
He added that two temporary relief centres have been opened at Nurul Iman Mosque and Putra Heights Mosque to house other affected residents. – April 1, 2025
