Gas pipe blast: 100 temporary homes offered to affected Putra Heights folks

Selangor MB says state govt will cover portion of rental cost, victims expected to move in next week

SUBANG JAYA – Up to 100 temporary homes will be offered to those affected by the underground gas pipe explosion in Putra Heights. 

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the offer is made through the SMART Sewa Selangor scheme, with a portion of the rental cost being borne by the state government. 

He said the state government is currently identifying the location of the temporary accommodation, with the victims expected to move in next week.

“I will be meeting Petronas representatives to discuss the temporary measures for the temporary accommodation of the victims. 

“The Selangor Housing and Property Board has offered over 100 units to the victims in the form of SMART Sewa. 

“So, if all goes well, within the next week or two, we can place them in the homes offered by Airbnb and SMART Sewa,” he said during the Chery cars handover to the victims ceremony at the Putra Heights Mosque grounds today. 

Additionally, about 25 victims have been provided with temporary vehicles from Chery Malaysia for a month, starting today. 

Also present at the ceremony were Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo and Selangor Investment, Trade and Mobility executive councillor Ng Sze Han. 

Elaborating further, Amirudin said that several nearby areas have been identified for the temporary housing for the victims.  

“We will look at the offers given for temporary accommodation. However, not all will be here, but we will offer those nearby first. 

“There are some in Sepang, Kota Warisan, not far from here. I understand that some may be attending school and so on, but this is a temporary offer, Airbnb will also verify in the near future. 

“The earliest will be next week – Monday or Tuesday, we will also try to settle the payment. If we can do it earlier, we will commit to the rental for two to three months,” he said. 

In addition, he said that as of yesterday, 85 families were allowed to return to their homes. 

“As of today, 115 houses have been certified safe by the fire department. 

“Today, the Social Welfare Department will begin several measures to control the privacy of the victims housed here (PPS). We will restrict visitors and guests from entering the PPS, and increase the number of tents outside,” he said. – April 4, 2025
