Putra Heights gas fire: Selangor targets full restoration by Friday

State authorities say electricity, telco services are on track for recovery, with investigations ongoing and enhanced safety measures under review

SUBANG JAYA — The Selangor state government expects full restoration of electricity and telecommunications services in areas affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire by Friday.

State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Ir Izham Hashim said coordination efforts are underway to ensure recovery operations proceed as quickly as possible across all impacted locations.

“Electricity meters will be installed once homeowners are ready to return, but severely damaged or unsafe properties won’t be reconnected,” he told reporters at the incident command post today.

“Telekom Malaysia has confirmed their services will be restored by Friday.”

Authorities are conducting thorough investigations to determine the fire’s cause, with findings to be presented by Selangor Menteri Besar.

“The investigation requires time for proper scrutiny before any conclusions are announced,” Izham said.

“We’ve nothing to hide – public safety remains our priority, especially given similar past incidents.”

He dismissed social media speculation about procedural violations, confirming all on-site work had Petronas approval and followed standard operating procedures.

A state-level committee is reviewing additional safety measures for Selangor’s entire gas pipeline network to prevent future recurrences.

“This is our key focus at state government level,” Izham added. “Proposals are being finalised for official presentation.” — April 8, 2025
