PUTRAJAYA — The civil servants responsible for the printing of an erroneous Jalur Gemilang in a Education Ministry (MoE) report have been identified, said Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
He said an investigation is currently underway, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the Public Service Department (JPA) Disciplinary Board’s procedures.
The officers identified have been divided into two groups: those above and below Grade 48.
“Officers below Grade 48 will be managed by MoE, while those above Grade 48 will face action from JPA,” he told reporters after officiating the closing of the Southeast Asia Anti-Corruption Conference here today.
Any action taken will be in line with regulations in the General Orders and the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations of 1993, Shamsul Azri added.
On April 24, MoE apologised and retracted copies of its analysis report on the recent Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results.
The error involved images of the Jalur Gemilang on pages 14 and 15 of the report that were generated by artificial intelligence (AI).
In its apology, MoE said it instructed for the printed reports to be recalled and immediately corrected.
Earlier today, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek dismissed calls for the resignations of officers involved, saying that an internal probe was still underway.
The MoE’s error was the latest incident involving inaccurate images of the national flag, with earlier incidents involving Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily and a Singaporean company at a baby expo here recently. – April 29, 2025
