KUALA LUMPUR – PKR could secure between 70 and 80 parliamentary seats in the next general election if Nurul Izzah Anwar is elected as the party’s deputy president for the 2025–2028 term, said the party’s deputy information chief, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
He attributed his confidence to Nurul Izzah’s performance during the 14th General Election (GE14), when PKR won nearly 50 parliamentary seats, Kosmo reported.
“At that time, Nurul Izzah was PKR’s election director, so her capabilities have been proven. If she is chosen as deputy president and continues with her experience as the party’s election director, I believe we can win 70 parliamentary seats, maybe even 80,” he told reporters at a hotel in Ipoh here today.
“However, if this trend (of internal party turmoil) continues, we may end up with only 19 seats from the current 31,” he warned.
Earlier, Ramanan, who is also vying for the vice-president post, met with 22 out of 24 PKR division chiefs in Perak.
He expressed unwavering support for Nurul Izzah’s candidacy, who currently serves as one of the party’s vice-presidents.
“I support Nurul Izzah’s nomination for deputy president 101%,” he said, adding that her leadership during GE14 proved to be a winning formula for the party.
“I have no other stance, and I’m not sitting in two or three camps. I’m in one camp only – I support Nurul Izzah because of her performance,” he added. – May 12, 2025
