KUALA LUMPUR — Nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel have been confirmed dead following a collision between their transport truck and a lorry carrying stones along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan, Perak this morning.

Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the victims, all members of FRU Unit 5 Ipoh, were en route in the truck when the accident occurred.

“Eight personnel were pronounced dead at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Five others sustained minor injuries,” he said.

The bodies have been sent to Teluk Intan Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Authorities have yet to release the identities of the victims.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department, in a separate statement, said an emergency call was received at 8.54am, prompting a team from the Teluk Intan station to be deployed to the scene, located roughly eight kilometres away.

Department director Sayani Saidon said, “The accident involved two lorries — an FRU truck and a lorry loaded with stones. Two victims were trapped inside the FRU vehicle. Rescue operations are still ongoing. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

Initial investigations suggest the FRU truck, which was transporting 15 personnel including the driver, collided head-on with the other lorry, leaving several individuals pinned inside.

Police and rescue authorities are continuing investigations to determine the cause of the crash. – May 13, 2025
