KUALA LUMPUR – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s WhatsApp account was hacked using a foreign virtual private network (VPN), police confirmed.
Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) acting director Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said the intruder accessed the account and blasted out URL links to all of Saifuddin’s contacts, Bernama reported.
“So far, no one has reported any losses. Quick action by the minister’s aides, who lodged a report immediately, helped prevent anyone from falling victim,” he said at a press conference today.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997.
The Home Minister’s office first disclosed the breach on Monday, saying it had been reported to the authorities. – May 30, 2025
