KUALA LUMPUR – PKR has not received any official membership application from Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said all applications to PKR are submitted online.

“The application will undergo the ‘normal process’ and be tabled at the Central Leadership Council (MPP) meeting.

“The application will be duly considered before any decision is made, taking into account various perspectives, including those of allies in the unity government and grassroots opinions,” she said in a statement today.

Earlier, Tengku Zafrul submitted his resignation letter from Umno to join PKR.

The investment, trade and industry minister confirmed that his resignation as a member of the Umno Supreme Council, Kota Raja division chief, and as an Umno member has been submitted to party leadership.

He also confirmed he had expressed his intention to join PKR to president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and secretary-general Fuziah.

“This decision was not an easy one. Before making this decision, I sought advice and views from friends within and outside the party, including from the President himself.

“I took considerable time to reflect deeply on this decision, especially as Umno has been the only political party I have ever joined, since 1997.

“Ultimately, this decision was made after self-reflection and considering various factors, especially compatibility and suitability,” he said in a Facebook post.

Following this, Umno Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Umno has not yet officially received Zafrul’s resignation letter. – May 31, 2025
